A-"MAZE"-ing

Trevor really needed a nap this afternoon. So Grayson and I just chilled out and did some quiet table activities. He's just not a colorer (if that's even a word), but I know it's something he needs to learn to do well as it will inevitably come up in his school years. I knew very few boys in my years of teaching that actually enjoyed coloring with crayons/markers, but it is a necessary evil. So we practiced for a while "learning" to enjoy it a little more and hone in on his fine motor skills.

As I flipped the pages of the color/activity book, I passed by a "maze" page. Grayson excitedly told me to stop and go back. I have never done mazes with him before. He quickly got from the "Start" to the "Finish". I flipped through the pages of 2 different books and proceeded to let him do each and every maze puzzle. He even accomplished some really difficult ones. There was no frustration, no crying when it got too difficult, no giving up and asking for help. He simply started over again if he got to a roadblock. The funniest thing I saw was when he was in the middle of a really hard puzzle and he stopped and looked at the puzzle. Then, just as his mommy does, he went to the "Finish" and proceeded to complete the maze backwards!!!

We had a great time going through the puzzle/activity books this afternoon! Although recent conversations about pre-school have not gone very well, my smart little man will do very well and will love every minute of it I am convinced!! (As long as the teacher doesn't require a lot of coloring)

One smart little boy, not to mention cute too!! I always start from the finish line and work backwards - must be our creative minds :-) Loved catching up with you a little today! You are such a great mom Jayne!

You've honed in on one of Grayson's strengths. He may be a master puzzle solver. It's so fun to work with them and then when you see a lightbulb go off it makes it even better. We've tampered a little bit lately with seeing if Bradley and I can work together for homeschool with starting some kindergarden work and it's been fun to see where his strengths are. I think they even surprise themselves.

interesting.....do not remember many children who did not like to color...do remember one petite little blonde, who liked to color everything black much to the dismay of her Aunt Gail!!!!!!!!!!
love, mom, gran, carol, all one & the same

I'm glad to know Anderson isn't the only one who doesn't love to color. If he has to color, it's all one color. I may have to try the maze thing - seems a little 'advanced'! Go Grayson!!

The boys love to do mazes!! And as for the coloring thing, one day it just clicked with Josiah and he absolutely LOVES it now - both boys do. We got some of the color wonder books one time for a road trip and that seemed to do it.. But once again, like everything else, it seems to happen in it's own time!
